Pinterest, eh.

I use Pinterest DAILY! On some days, ALL DAY! I expect quite a lot from this little Palo Alto based Kingdom! But I do not think my expectations are unreasonable at all! When I find a photo I want to hoard, I expect to be able to use the pin it button and glue it to my board (with rhymes like that...Eminem, move over)! Today I have tried and tried and tried. I can scroll down the list of my boards, I cannot write in the message box, lastly and most importantly, I can't pin the pic....So...

This is what I wrote to them, today. How I really feel: Fix your effing $%#&!!!!!!!

Hi guys! Let me preface this expression with the fact that I absolutely love Pinterest and the entire team that makes it go. With that said, because the team is so small, it can be frustrating when things don't go right. My pinmarklet today will not pin. And I have been asked twice to rate the pinterest app, which I have. My answer: glitchy at best. Everyone else says, "I love it." "It's wonderful!" I say, "hogwash!" The site is great but the app is slow and when I repin another pinner's image, I get kicked off the app and have to re-open it on my iphone. Boo. Finally, today, I tried to pin something to a secret board - no go. Then I tried to pin it to a shared board - still, no go. Now, I'm writing to you. I know you are regularly pummeled with myriad requests and complaints, but would you mind (before moving forward) fixing these wee cockroaches? They're a real drag.

3/2/2012 Addendum:
I got an email today from Pinterest. They said I posted nudity and that it would have to be removed. I never pinned nudity and there is no link so I can see the pic. They are really pissing me off!

Pinterest - The Best Of....

Ok, so the photo sharing social media mogul that is Pinterest is one of my all time favorite past times ever...more than glamping, more than painting, more than a party and almost as much as riding a horse. I just want to share some extraordinary photos here that are sure to get you wanting an invitation. As I've mentioned before, Pinterest is still in it's "beta" stage and that is why you need an invitation. I love it for the inspiration (I made fatless Ranch Dressing from a recipe I found on it), it's fashion sense (I found a pair of shoes for an upcoming wedding there), and it's all around good nature (I've giggled out loud evoking an inquisitive eyebrow lift from the husband from someone posting something hilarious)! Of course I have clled this post "The Best of Pinterest," but let's face it, a site with 1 billion people on it means my "best of" list is limited.

If you want an invitation, comment here with your email address and I will send it right away!

This is "cabinet of curiosities" from Cri Cri.

This is from one of my favorite boards called "Coffee and Coffee Houses."

I am often attracted to things that are questionable. On the board, "Un Monde Flou" (A Blurry World) you'll find that you'll question all kinds of things. The woman who arranges these collections has a very artistic eye.

I follow a woman called Beth Fath. This is a photograph of a dress by one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th Century, Jacques Fath. He was along side of Christian Dior and Coco Chanel. Beth's "Jacques Fath" board has some of the greatest fashions ever seen.

Design Quixotic is a graphics company based in New York City. If you are wanting a clever typeset or a stammeringly fantastic design on a business card check Thea out! She is a very talented artist!
This lady is awesome. Her name is Kirsi and she is a Finnish artist. All of her pin boards are arranged by color. I wish I had been clever enough to think of that becasue I think it would take alot of guess work out of organizing. Also, it is a delight to go from her Orange board to her red board and then on to her green board. Her eye is sumptuous and I would love to bathe in all these colors!

Pinterest - Keep Calm and Fake a British Accent!

You all know that I love Pinterest. And you know I love books, music, art, film, travel, fashion, cooking and design. But did you also know I love to fake an accent. I'd say I'm pretty good at Irish but in a pinch I've been known to emulate an English accent as well. And on a rainy day like today - why not?

The following are ways that this Keep Calm has been used. Attached are the lists of where you can find these goodies!

I need your comments, guys! As my friend Sharon says, "Comments feed my blog!" What kinds of things do you love?!

Pinterest - A Beginner's Guide

My love of the blogosphere and blogging is surpassed only by my love for Pinterest. Pinterest is a sensation to me that is perhaps my favorite past time at the moment. It is creative and stylized. It is also an exceptional social networking platform!  It fills my obsession for stuff that is pretty, funny, quirky, clever, unusual or just plain cool. But I have heard from several folks that it can be difficult to maneuver around the site.

So how about a wee tutorial?

  1. Go to www.pinterest.com
  2. Request an invite
    1. You'll receive an invitation in your inbox in a day or two.
  3. Then you will set up your account.
    1. You can set up your account with your email
    2. Twitter
    3. or Facebook
      1. You will choose a display name
      2. And tell pinners a little bit about yourself.
  4. You will be prompted to create some pin boards
    1. Pinterest gives you five suggestions but you can change the names and add boards.
    2. For instance, I have 28 boards (and more than 1000 pins)!
  5. My boards are such:
    1. Basic Coolness: Sometimes I have a hard time cataloging something...then I put it here.
    2. Dream Home: I pin pics here of homes and parts of homes that inspire me.
    3. Home Libraries: I love this board. I'm a book whore so I guess it's understandable.
    4. Mirrors: This is the beauty of pinterest. I can pin whatever I want. I've made an entire board devoted to nothing but mirrors. I'm a Libra - we like twins and mirrors - something to do with balance.
    5. Gorgeous Gowns: I'm all girl; I love a pretty dress.
    6. The Table: I have a great love for entertaining. My mother creates a sumptuous table and the design of a table is an underestimated detail of a gathering.
    7. Mirth: (And one day part of the title for La Bottine) I pin anything here that makes me feel light hearted or puts a smile on my face. That's what Mirth is - gaiety or jollity especially when accompanied by laughter.
    8. Gastronomy: Cooking, food, eating, cuisine, you know!
    9. Wedding Love: Where I can pin things from La Bottine and collect pretty wedding things.
    10. Crafting, Handmade and DIY: You know!
  6. The final directive is to seek things you love. In the search box if love kitties, type kitties. If you like graphic design, type design and so on. And if you have any questions, you can ask me anything!!!
Happy Pinning!

Before There Was Pinterest...

There was me!

I absolutely love Pinterest! It's an addiction that I feel pretty good about, in fact - I mean as far as addictions go. I'll spend and hour, sometimes two or an entire afternoon perusing the internet for pretty pictures to pin with my pinmarklet address bar pin tool. I'll use my app to pin and pin and pin - especially when I'm using the loo! But before there was Pinterest, I would while away a Sunday afternoon, long, long ago cutting up magazines and saving the prettiest and most interesting images.

Look at all the goodies I got through the years. I will periodically post pretty pictures from as far back as 1989. Those are photos from more than 20 years ago. I know it sounds out of date but literature, film, design and cuisine is often timeless! Join Pinterest and follow me there so I can follow you too! You have to apply for an invitation (Oh, such an exclusive club) then you sign up and that's that...you're hooked!
